Film Series: Cinema Tropical - Selected Latin American Documentaries
A selection of recent outstanding Latin American documentaries curated by Cinema Tropical www.cinematropical.com

Thursday, December 2, 7:15 p.m. (program)
CINE MAMBEMBE, CINEMA DISCOVERS BRAZIL
Luiz Bolognesi and Laís Bodansky, Brazil, 1999, 56 min.
A pair of young filmmakers embark on a journey to Brazil’s interior, screening short Brazilian films to different audiences in public squares. From the south of Bahia to the remote areas of the Amazon, they discover a country going to the movies and seeing itself on the big screen for the very first time at the dawn of the 21st century.

XV EN ZAACHILA
Rigoberto Perezcano, Mexico, 2002, 52 min.
There are no movie theatres in the town of Zaachila, and the only form of entertainment are the parties that take over the town – every weekend. A family, a daughter, a bull to be killed, eight godfathers, a party that lasts two days, six chamberlains, 850 guests... all of this for a fifteenth birthday. Director Perezcano follows the preparation and celebration of a quinciañera, the day when a girl turns fifteen and her parents introduce her to society, and he demonstrates that a party, in Zaachila, is not to be taken lightly.

*Q&A with Rigoberto Perezcano following the screening.
Rigoberto Perezcano's presence has been sponsored by Mezcal Los Amantes.
